Summer Camp FAQ

 When?

From 3pm, 27th Dec 2008 till 1pm 1st January 2009.

How do I get there?

Follow the directions below (keeping your eyes peeled for PYV signage). The campsite is marked on Melways Key Map 7, B6.

From Melbourne:  Exit the Western Freeway at the first Bacchus Marsh exit. Turn Left at the roundabout in Main Street onto Grant Street. Turn Right at the roundabout by Maddingley Park (don’t cross the railway) and continue for 7.7 km until you reach the signs to Rowsley/Glenmore and Lady Northcote Camp at the intersection marked * on the (upper) map. Turn Right at this crossroad, the camp is 8km from the intersection on the left past the Spring Creek Bridge.

From Geelong: reach intersection * (upper map) from Bacchus Marsh – Geelong Rd via Balliang East. The camp is 8 km from the intersection on the left, past the Spring Creek Bridge.

From Ballarat: Cars - the camp can be reached by leaving the Western Freeway at the Ballan/Daylesford exit, turn right and follow Ballan Geelong Road, towards Mt Wallace. About 2 Kms past the CFA training centre, turn left on to Glenmore Road.

Does PYV provide transport to camp?

Getting to or from camp is the responsibility of parents. If you are stuck for a lift, you can contact the camp registrar, who may be able to put you in contact with another parent from your area, with whom you could make your own arrangements.

If you intend to catch the train to camp, please see the details at the bottom of the page.

How can I be sure if my child is registered on camp?

Response letters will be sent out to all registered campers within one week of the registration due date. If you have not received your letter by 20th Dec, please call (03) 9023 0153 to check whether your registration has been received.

What is Foundations Internship?

Foundations Internship is an opportunity for prospective PYV leaders to be trained in youth ministry.Over the week, Rev Phillip Burns will giving an overview of the New testament. For more information, click here.

What if my child is sick on the day of camp?

Please don't send sick kids to camp!! Let us know that they aren't coming, and you will be refunded.

Who is eligible for the subsidized price of $195?

If you are 16 or under, you must qualify as being either:

  • Holder of a health care card, or
  • Having a sibling also on camp.

If you are aged 17 and above, PYV is able to offer the discounted price to Health Care Card holders only.

EXAMPLE:

There are four brothers coming to camp: Tom (13 years old), Dick (15), Harry (16), Alfred (22). The parents do not have a health care card, but Alfred who is a uni-student living away from home does. Their cousin Mabel (13) also wants to come, and has a health care card.

Tom is under 16 and has a a sibling on camp, so he pays the subsidised price.

Mabel is under 16, does not have a sibling on camp, but since she has a health care card she pays the subsidised price.

Dick is under 16 and has a a sibling on camp, so he pays the subsidised price.

Harry is 16 and does not have a health care card, so he pays the full price.

Alfred is over 16 but has a health care card, so he pays the subsidised price.

Please Note: There are only limited funds available under these schemes, and it will be a case of “first in, best dressed.”

How do I apply for further subsidies?

Unfortunately, there are no longer additional funds available to fund campers. Please consider approaching your local church to request subsidies. If you would like assistance with this, please call PYV on (03) 9017 4676.

What standards of screening are there for camp leaders?

The accreditation process for all of our camp leaders has two main elements:

  • They fill in an application that follows the requirement of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria’s “Breaking the Silence” Policy, which includes reference checks,
  • They must apply for a “Working With Children Check,” which is monitored by the department of justice, and is the replacement for the “Police Check.”
