About The Speaker - Rev. Dave Assender
Dave is married to Tanya, with two amazing kids. He is an electrician-turned-pressy-minister, now working as an assistant chaplain at Scotch College, Melbourne. He sees his time working with PYV as decisively shaping his understanding of Christian ministry, and loves to talk about what makes people ‘work’ and why it is they believe what they do. Robotics seems to be taking precedence amongst his other hobbies at the moment. His life-long goal is to build a house with a recording studio, made almost entirely from materials gathered from its local area.
Competition Details
There are two separate competitions running through the night simultaneously – one for youth groups, one for individuals / small groups.
Each act will showcase talents. These “talents” can be singing, dancing, juggling, swallowing swords, miming, whatever you want really, provided they have ‘clean’ content, with no swearing, blasphemy, bullying, sexual connotations etc.
Any performances that contain questionable content will see the performers asked to leave the stage immediately.
Each act shall be judged by a panel and given a score. Scores will remain secret until the conclusion of the night.
Youth Group Act Details
Each act will require a $20 deposit upon registration. This will be refunded following the night. Failure to perform will see the deposit forfeited.
Each Youth Group Act will have a 10 minute time slot, to include:
- A short (1-2 minute) video outlining “their journey” (Journey videos will be filmed and put together by a tech team assigned by PYVGT Convenor).
- The performance (5 minutes maximum)
- Judges’ comments (3 minutes)
- Pack-up and departure from stage (1 minute)
Registration for each youth group act will be online, with contact details, a detailed description of the act, (including technical requirements), and payment of the $20 deposit (paid via Paypal) to be completed by Monday June 17th.
Youth Group acts must be available for a rehearsal for their act during the afternoon of Saturday June 30th also.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I don’t have a youth group or my youth group doesn’t want to enter?
Don’t worry about it! If you like, you can enter the Individual / Small Group competition as an individual or just come along anyway and have a fun night out being entertained by other churches and listen to Rev. Dave Assender talk about the Gospel.
Why a talent night?
PYV’s Got Talent was such a success in 2010, it has been in high demand for it to comeback bigger and better! PYV is aiming to provide fun and exciting settings for the youth of PCV to bring along their non-Christian friends to meet other young people and more importantly to hear the Gospel.
What is a talent?
A talent can be anything from singing; to acting; to doing tricks. Just use your imagination, please BE CREATIVE, show the judges things they haven’t seen before!!! Remember that we want as many big group performances as possible, so try and include all your friends into your act. One of the judging criteria will be how team oriented the act was.
Do we need to set up and pack away the stage for our act?
Yes, it is important that you all practice setting up and putting away your props for your act, as you will only have about a minute to do each. Each act is responsible for getting all their people and props in position in time. Time management is very important for each team, as it allows us to fit more acts into the program.
