Financial Assistance To Attend Camps
PYV’s Financial Outlook
The Global Financial Crisis and related economic downturn has resulted in dramatic cuts to the investment income of PYV and other possible funding sources (church committees and trusts). This means that it is no longer sustainable, for the cost of PYV camps to be subsidised in the way they have for so many years. From 2010 the true cost of camps will have to be charged to campers, regrettably resulting in significant increases in camp fees.
What Can Be Done?
The PYV Council is acutely aware of the financial burden this will place on families sending their children to PYV camps. We would also encourage parents and campers to contact your church's Board of Management, family members or other church members to ask for their support in meeting the cost.
What Is Being Done?
PYV Council has taken the decision to restructure its camping ministry for 2012 and beyond. This was done, in part, to reduce camp costs.
Social Services Committee
The Social Services Committee of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria also has funds available on request for those who wish to attend camps but are not in a financial position to do so.
Applications to the Social Services Committee are conducted through your home congregation. Download the application form here
Take this form to your Minister or Session Clerk and ask them to complete it with you.
To assist you in completing the form, PYV suggests the following answers for Section Two:
a) Details of Organisation running the camp, activities and programs offered:
"Presbyterian Youth Victoria (PYV) conduct the camp for those aged 10 to 25+. The camp will be a combination of bible talks and studies, along with activities that encourage social interaction amongst campers."
c) Statement of Benefit of Activity
"PYV exists to provide opportunities for youth to hear the Gospel and make a commitment to Christ; to encourage fellowship amongst the youth of Victoria; and to build the youth leaders of today into the church of today and tomorrow."
d) Is the event official / sanctioned / endorsed?
"The camp is officially sanctioned by the Presbyterian Church of Victoria"
e) Accreditations of organisation running the activity?
"PYV is a sub-committee of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria"
PYV would encourage local churches to seek some contribution from those who require financial assistance (e.g 25-75% of the camp fee). In turn, the Social Services Committee asks that all applications only seek partial funding assistance.
